Once this building was built by such men, each brick placed one upon another,
the wiring and plumbing hidden through weeks of work, tonnes of concrete.
Engineers making magic. Our bodies learn to live here as our predecessors inhabited caves, cliffs and trees,

As I paint, the maintenance men passing by joke with each other that someone has left the switch-plate off,
 or that Health and Safety will be calling them up to deal with the live wires exposed in the foyer.
