Through Beijings’s pewter smog and the haze of past and memory
Tracing a path amongst tangled grey hutong alleys;
Temples and markets flecked with colour,
The cuts and the crossings of wide silver avenues and shinning new towers.
Lulled by the familiar, jolted by difference; crowded places, unfathomly empty spaces.
At the margins, pared down, remote, detached, gazed at.
 Become other.

Gathering uncertain fragments; gray splinters, sudden glimpses, gleaming dust.
